Why Fly with SilkAir

Check In

SilkAir offers several convenient check-in options. Online check-in is available for all passengers, except for unaccompanied minors, passengers in need of special or medical assistance, and passengers traveling in a group of 10 or more. Mobile check-in is also an option starting from 48 hours up to 2 hours before the scheduled departure time. However, check with the airline first to see if mobile boarding passes are accepted at your departure airport. Self-service check-in kiosks are also available in major airports from 48 hours up to 40 minutes before departure. For those who need to check in at the airport counters, it is recommended to be at the counter 2 to 3 hours before departure time. Check-in closes approximately 40 minutes before departure time at all airports except for India and Nepal where the counters close 60 minutes before departure time.

Payment Methods

There are various methods of payment for your SilkAir booking. The airline accepts credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club) and debit cards (Visa and MasterCard). Masterpass is also an accepted mode of payment, except for tickets purchased out of Myanmar. For tickets purchased out of China, Alipay is accepted as an online payment solution.

Seating

SilkAir offers three classes of cabins on their flights — Business Class, Premium Economy Class, and Economy Class. Seat selection is free for the Standard and Flexi fare types, while passengers traveling on Lite fare type will need to pay for preferred seats. Fees start from USD 5.00 depending on cabin class and fare type. Premium Economy and Economy passengers can also choose seats with a more comfortable legroom for a fee. Additional fees for these seats start at USD 25.00. On the SilkAir Boeing 737 aircraft, each seat has one USB socket and a 3-pin plug point for charging tablets and other mobile devices.

Baggage Allowance

The complimentary baggage allowance for SilkAir passengers is based on cabin class, fare type and membership tier in the PPS Club and KrisFlyer Elite. Business Class passengers are allowed to check-in up to 40 kg for free. Economy Class baggage allowance is based on fare types — 30 kg for Lite or Standard and 35 kg for Flexi fares. The carry-on baggage allowance for Business Class is 2 pieces of up to 7 kg each, while Economy Class passengers can each carry-on 1 bag of a maximum weight of 7 kg.

In-Flight Services

All SilkAir flights offer a fine selection of Asian and Western meals. Light snacks are also available on selected flights of less than one and a half hours. There is also a good selection of movies, music, and magazines for inflight entertainment on the SilkAir Studio app which you can view on your personal mobile device. The bi-monthly inflight magazine of SilkAir, Silkwinds, provides interesting features on travel, food and lifestyle.
